• Arch's Iguana Farm: While in Roatan for the serious iguana-phile, everywhere you look you see iguanas, in all, around 3000. The best time to visit is Midday feeding time. There's also an enclosed pool with a school of huge fish, several small sea turtles, and dozens of conches.

• Carambola Botanical Gardens: Reservations are required for guided tours; these gardens on the Bay isle of Roatan have well-maintained trails through 40 acres of protected forest, extending up about 1km to the 'summit' of Carambola Mountain. Here you can see all the way to Utila on a clear day. You'll encounter dozens of species of native plants, such as orchids, spice plants, medicinal plants, and fruit trees. Along the way you'll pass Iguana Wall, a cliff inhabited by iguanas and parrots, as well as remnants of pre-Columbian settlements.

• Roatán Museum & Dolphin Show: Check out the dolphin show held twice daily, it’s truly worth it. Sign up for one of several programs like the Dolphin Beach Encounter where you wade and interact with a single dolphin in waist-deep water to a Dolphin Snorkel or Dolphin Dive, which include interacting with a group of dolphins in the open water.

• El Águila Wreck: The Águila, one of Roatan’s famous dive spots, after Hurricane Mitch broke the ship into three pieces it's even better. With its abundance of resident moray eels, you may draw a crowd and huge groupers looking for a snack. This may be cool to see, but be advised, do not to feed animals while diving or snorkeling since they can get annoying and sometimes even aggressive.

Roatán's beaches can be rife with sand flies, tiny insects whose bites leave red itchy welts. Bring long-sleeved shirts and pants to wear and use insect repellant in case the flies are biting.
